Butterfly Farms of San Diego, CA was established in 2013, because we became alarmed at the news that our local pollinator population was in peril. While this includes bees, which most folks think of when they recall pollinating insects, butterflies are just as important. We could not sit back and let their decline happen without doing something to get involved in their recovery. We are now a 501(c)(3) California nonprofit organization dedicated to butterfly education and conservation, and donations are tax deductible.
In the two years during which we have been in operation, we have created a substantial educational toolset which we use to help the public learn more about these vital insects and the relationship among them, their host plants, and our food supply. We have a 2,000 square foot vivarium where butterflies fly free, and you can see them up close. You can also tour our lab and learn how we study and raise our butterflies and their host plants. We are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Our mission is to provide the very best in Butterfly Habitat and Vegetation. Call us at Butterfly Farms now to donate to our research and conservation programs or to learn how to start your own butterfly garden!
